Jatamashi, also known as Balchhad, is a sacred item in Hindu pooja rituals, particularly in the worship of Lord Shiva. It is a type of dried, twisted, and curled root of the Valerian plant, which is believed to possess spiritual energy.

In Hindu mythology, Jatamashi is said to be a favorite of Lord Shiva, and its unique shape is thought to resemble the Lord's matted locks.

During Shiva puja, Jatamashi is typically offered to the deity as a symbol of devotion and surrender. It is usually placed on the Shiva Linga or idol, accompanied by other offerings like flowers, incense, and sacred ash.

The twisted shape of Jatamashi is believed to absorb and neutralize negative energies, bringing peace and harmony to the worshipper.

In traditional Hindu belief, Jatamashi is said to possess powerful spiritual properties, capable of warding off evil spirits and attracting positive energies.

Its unique shape is also believed to resemble the cosmic dance of Lord Shiva, symbolizing the eternal cycle of creation and destruction.

By incorporating Jatamashi into their pooja rituals, devotees seek to connect with the divine energy of Lord Shiva and experience spiritual growth and enlightenment.
